The cabin sits right at about 5000 feet above sea level. It can and does snow anytime after Sept 15th through June 15th. It is colder in Two Bit than Deadwood and gets more snow due to the increased elevation. Plan on weather affecting your stay as it can and will. While the driveway gets plowed you are advised to bring 4WD or AWD anytime that it may snow…..because it happens fast and big!

How do I get there?

Rapid City is the nearest regional airport and it is just under an hour away. There is no traffic…..almost ever. Great little airport with all the big city conveniences except the crowd. What a welcome relief! If Driving I90 is the main interstate running east to west across all of South Dakota and beyond.

Guns and shooting?

Nope, not permitted in the subdivision, however there is a range in Spearfish Canyon. We’re not opposed to guns, just not allowed in the subdivision.

Pets?

Yup, but you are responsible for any damage your pet may cause. Watch for cliffs and wild animals. Mountain Lion, Bobcats and skunks are in the Black Hills. Our cameras surrounding the exterior of the house have captured thousands of deer, 8 skunks, and 1 mountain lion. I have seen a bobcat there once but never caught one on film so there is not a lot of them but you should keep an eye on your dog. (especially for skunk). Since 1890 there have been a total of 16 attacks by Mountain Lions in the USA, 6 fatal. It is extreamly rare. If you encounter one, do not run, put your arms in the air and stand your ground, get loud. Video Below.

Gold Mine Shaft and Cliffs

Explore the property and enjoy it AT YOUR OWN RISK. The goldmine shaft is cool to check out but know that it is collapsed, unstable and not suitable for you to be inside of it as it could collapse and kill you. Behind the garage is a 50 foot cliff as well as one across from the deck. Climb up there take in the sites, but be aware of the edge and your footing becuase a fall could be fatal. Don’t get too close!
