Black Hills Activities and Attractions

(Custer State Park, 2003, by J. Lundin)

Custer State Park- Our favorite thing to do every time we come to the hills. This is where the buffalo roam, as well as Elk, mule deer, white tailed deer, mountain goats, bighorn sheep, pronghorn antelope, mountain lions, and feral burros as well as many other species of wildlife.  The picture taken above is from my camera, right outside our car, at Custer.

Mount Rushmore-  A must see for anyone visiting the Black Hills for the first time.  It is only a 15 minute drive from the cabin, and the world-famous monument will not disappoint.

The 1880 Train-  Go back in time and take a ride to Keystone and back on a genuine Old West train.

Needles Highway-  Beautiful, 100 foot tall spires of granite tower above you while biking or driving along this beautiful highway.

Black Hills Hiking

Explore the Black Hills hundreds of miles of hiking trails.

Black Hills Fishing

There are amazing fly fishing and lure fishing opportunities in the Black Hills. The Black Hills have some of the most beautiful lakes and streams from which to pull Brown, Rainbow, and Brook Trout.

A fisherman at Sylvan Lake, the most beautiful lake in the Hills, in our opinion, and a great jumping off point for a hike up Harney!

Black Hills Biking

The Mickelson Trail is a beautiful biking and jogging trail that runs the length of the Black Hills!

The Badlands National Park

The Badlands are to the northeast of the Black Hills, and are well worth the trip. They got their name from when bad guys from the Old West would hide out in their crevices.   This shot is from the edge of the badlands looking south.
